Dreaming of a Bali Honeymoon? Get Married There, Too.

You pictured the honeymoon: a villa with its own pool, slow mornings together, dinner overlooking the ocean. But what if the people you love most could be there for the beginning?

Imagine exchanging vows above the Indian Ocean, then sitting down to dinner with your closest family and friends. The next morning, nobody has to rush away. There is time for another swim, another long lunch, another story about the night before.

A few days later, you say your goodbyes and leave for your honeymoon.

A Bali destination wedding can give you something a single evening rarely does: time to celebrate, time to be together, and a journey your guests may have dreamed of taking themselves.

A Wedding Worth Traveling For

There is something lovely about giving the people closest to you a reason to take a trip they have talked about for years. Your wedding could be that reason: the occasion that finally gets your family to Asia, brings far-flung friends together, or turns everyone’s someday into a date on the calendar.

Bali gives that gathering room to become a holiday. Picture your families getting to know each other over breakfast, friends meeting for a swim, and a welcome dinner that feels like the beginning of something. By the time you walk down the aisle, you have already shared more than a rehearsal.

Set aside roughly three days to celebrate together: a welcome evening, the wedding, and time afterward before you leave for your honeymoon. Guests can arrive earlier to settle in or stay longer to explore. You are making time for the people who have come so far to be with you.

Is this right for us? If the wedding you want is an intimate gathering with time to enjoy your guests, it is worth exploring. Start by talking with the people whose presence matters most about travel time, budget, and availability. Their excitement about the journey is part of what makes the idea work.

Your Celebration, in a Setting You Love

Perhaps you see yourselves on a clifftop lawn with the ocean behind you. Perhaps it is a candlelit dinner at a private estate, or a celebration surrounded by Ubud’s greenery. You might want everyone staying together in a collection of villas, with a pool and a gathering place that become familiar over a few days.

A private Bali wedding does not necessarily mean buying out an entire resort. Depending on the property, an estate or several villas may give you the intimacy you want. Other couples prefer a resort venue with guest rooms arranged separately. For a celebration that takes over the whole property, a full buyout can be part of the picture.

But we have never been to Bali. How would we choose?

This is where firsthand knowledge helps. I walked Bali’s oceanfront hotels, stepped inside private villas, and pictured my couples exchanging vows above the sea. With the wedding teams, we orchestrated the whole celebration: sunset cocktails, dinner under the stars, and slow mornings with the people you love most. Here are some of my top recommendations, however I tailor the resort to the client’s needs and budget:

  • Uluwatu: Alila Villas Uluwatu, Bulgari Bali
  • Ungasan: The Ungasan, Umana Bali
  • Nusa Dua: St. Regis Bali, Mulia & Villas, Apurva Kempinski
  • Jimbaran: Raffles and Four Seasons
  • Ubud: Capella, Viceroy, Mandapa (a Ritz Carlton Reserve) and Four Seasons Sayan

We begin with what draws you to the idea, then look at how the celebration would actually feel. Where would your family stay? Could everyone gather easily? Would guests have room to enjoy their own holiday between events? Which spaces would belong exclusively to your group?

We can build a shortlist around the wedding and the experience you want to share.

And yes, your wedding team may mention a rain stopper.  A pawang hujan is a traditional spiritual practitioner who performs rituals intended to invite clear skies for important occasions. It is a seriously held tradition that can become part of the preparations for a Bali wedding, alongside practical plans for the weather. Details like this are part of the value of planning with a travel advisor who knows the destination and its culture. Along with finding a beautiful setting, I help you understand the place you are choosing for one of the most meaningful moments of your life.

Your Wedding Budget

Beautiful, elegant, wedding cake with floral decorations on table For couples considering a smaller guest list, Bali opens up an appealing conversation about value.  Money that might have gone toward a much larger reception at home could help create several days together: a remarkable villa, welcome drinks overlooking the ocean, a generous wedding dinner, or accommodation for your immediate family.

Some wedding arrangements combine villa accommodation with ceremony and reception space. The Ungasan, for example, offers packages at different scales that include villa stays. That gives us something useful to compare with a venue fee that covers only the event space.

Could it cost less than your wedding at home? Possibly, depending on the guest count, property, and celebration. The full comparison includes flights, accommodation, events, transfers, and the honeymoon, as well as which costs you cover and which guests pay themselves. Conrad Bali, is also on my shortlist when exploring a more accessible accommodation budget, with pricing assessed for your dates and celebration.

The more interesting question is what you want that spending to give you. A beautiful evening matters. So does having breakfast with your closest friends the next morning, or watching your parents experience a place they never expected to visit.

And if Bali was already your honeymoon plan, your wedding can become the beginning of that same journey.

Say Your Goodbyes. Then Begin Your Honeymoon.

Perhaps that means Bawah Reserve in Indonesia, with days spent between the beach and the water. Or Song Saa Private Island in Cambodia, where a private pool villa gives you room to settle into your time alone. If Japan has always been on your list, Aman Tokyo could be the beginning of a honeymoon filled with city discoveries, long dinners, and a few nights at a ryokan farther along the journey.

Thailand offers another possibility: an island retreat paired with time in Bangkok. Or you might choose Vietnam for its food, history, and a mix of exploration and quiet coastal days.

Your wedding brought everyone together. Your honeymoon can take you somewhere you have always wanted to go.

These are possibilities to build around your interests, season, and available time. We look at the flights and the pace together so the honeymoon feels like time to enjoy being newlyweds, with room to linger in the places you choose.

You do not need a final guest list or a chosen venue to begin. Bring the idea: the setting you keep imagining, the people you want beside you, and the honeymoon you would love to take afterward.

At Paradigm Travel Agency, I help you explore the property, accommodation, and travel arrangements, working alongside the resort’s wedding team or a local wedding planner on the parts that bring the journey together.
